Oral Antibiotics For Acne Treatment

Free Dermatology CME for Family Physicians

It is these antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects that are important for acne treatment. If your patient's inflamed pimples do not respond well to topical acne antibiotics, or if they have acne on many areas of their body, antibiotics in pill form can be more effective, easier to take, and more convenient.

These Agents Act In Two Ways:

  • To reduce the number of acne bacteria
  • To reduce inflammation

The Most Commonly Used Antibiotics Are:

  • Tetracycline
  • Minocycline
  • Doxycycline
  • Erythromycin
  • Trimethoprim
  • Azithromycin
